A month or so ago I caved into my consumerist desires and bought a new digital camera--this time an SLR. The advantages I had in mind were: a real viewfinder to better compose photos, which also makes it easier to see what you're shooting in bright sunlight, a manual focus ring, the ability to take exposures as long as I want, 8 megapixels for larger prints than my 5 megapixel camera and the possibility of putting a lens with virtually any focal length onto it. All of these things I received by buying a digital SLR. But there are also some things that my g5 (at the higher priced, less compact end of non-SLR digital cameras) were better for. After fiddling around with my new camera, it occured to me that the swivelling LCD viewfinder on the g5 was extremely useful for taking photos easily above or below the usual vantage point of my eye, including macro photos, and it also meant that I didn't have to bend down if the tripod I was using wasn't as tall as my eye. Sure, it didn't show as much detail as an SLR viewfinder, and was a pain to see if sunlight was glaring off of it, but certainly it had use. The other signifigant advantage of the g5 is its light weight and relatively small size. The EOS 350D that I bought is actually not much heavier with the 18-50mm lens, but it's much bulkier--not something as easily shoved into the remaining space in my backpack, which I could do even with the case with the g5. And of course the SLR gets REALLY heavy and bulky once I put on the 70-300mm lens, which I of course find use in carrying around with the camera at almost all times. So now I can get some photos that I certainly could not with the g5, but the majority of my photos will be taken within the range of capability of the g5, making it a more ideal travelling camera. But I can't help it, I've bought the 350D, so I'm going to use it, and for me 90% of my best photos are when I'm travelling, so I will take it with me travelling. I'll see how it goes.
In the meantime, I have taken some photos worth showing with it, which I've posted.

I found your photo, while browsing, and I loved it. Then I came here and decided to add you to my friends list. I was surprised to see all those comments from you. Thank you for the advices, but I'm still a beginner in Digital Photography. Never liked computers and technology, but I decided to try.
Anyway... I hope to continue (slowly, problay) learning things and to improve my work
Thank you again
